Close to my home is a magnificent fallen tree which when first inspected in October 1996 had about 10 different species of fungi. This series of pictures will attempt to chronicle the appearance of different species throughout 1997. The scope will be wide enough to include species on separated branches of the tree or other debris from it. Here is the tree (an elm).

                               Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis 

These were growing at the interface of a piece of fallen bark and some mossy ground.

An isolated specimen was growing directly out of the trunk. The seven specimens

observed showed a variation in colour from light brown to almost black.

This very tough/leathery fungus was growing out of a fallen branch and was very

difficult to detach.
