Cortinarius turmalis

I am having a real problem with the cortinarii. I have 4 volumes of Cortinarius photographs (Flora photographica by Brandrud et al) but could not identify this one until Karl Soop mailed me the answer. Sure enough there it was on plate C31 of the book. 1 week later I have rechecked the site and a scattered group of 26 has appeared. Habitat:- Under fir on bed of needles. Description:- Pileus 6cm , thin white veil, stipe shiny tinged violet at base flesh pure white not bruising, taste bitter, cuticle peels easily gills crowded similar in colour to cap (this is a young specimen so the gills colour will differ at maturity) Since starting this web page this is the first cortinarius identified with certainty! Here's another There again perhaps not. Hypholoma has now been suggested. Habitat:- Stump, elevation 300m Location:- Y Garn , Coed-y-Brenin, Wales Size:- Pileus about 6mm Comments:- Obviously these grow a little larger.
