Geastrum ........

Date observed:- September 1996 Habitat:- Found in already dried condition at base of hawthorn hedgerow. Location:- Tarvin Sands Scale:- Sac 15mm diameter maximum. A total of 13 specimens were collected and the site will be watched with great interest from June 1997 onwards.

Geastrum striatum

Update:- This specimen found July 3rd 1997 still containing a large amount of brown spores. Identical location. Despite intense searching since May I still missed the emergence of this fungus. While the hawthorn hedge was without leaves a large mass of chickweed developed over the location which later died as the hawthorns leaves shut out the light and thus revealing the fungus. It would seem that the fungus is amost subterranean until maturity.
